The Ghost in My MacBook Pro
So I finally caved and bought a new MacBook Pro. I didn't opt for the 17" variety, mainly because I'm so attached to my laptop bag (North Face Recon II) and I wasn't absolutely sure it would fit. You could say that I've got misplaced priorities, but I've spent a lot of time toting around laptops in the wrong sorts of bags. So believe me: my priorities are straight. It's a big adjustment, getting used to all the weird keys and keyboard shortcuts. It gives you a feeling like someone permanently moved the 'q', 'a', and 'z' keys to the right side of the keyboard. I find that, like a poorly trained spy, I don't yet think in the native language of the Mac...but I'm getting faster. The apps are great (that's the main reason I had to leave behind my beloved Ubuntu-driven Thinkpad), but I'm beginning to notice an odd health consequence since switching. Namely, my blood pressure keeps ticking up and up as the day goes on, and I'm forever stuck wondering, "WTF is that noise for?" Apparently, OS X thinks that ...
